Every year the death of half a million children (below 5 years of age) is not only the highest contributor to mortality in Pakistan but also unacceptable as 80% is preventable (UNICEF).
ChildLife Foundation will be managing Children Emergency Rooms in ALL government teaching hospitals in SINDH in 2019, i.e. 9 ERs with 500 beds, treating 1 million children per year - free of cost. Each ER has 100 additional trained staff, a fully stocked pharmacy, life–saving medical equipment and is fully automated (paperless).
To date, 2.2 million children have been treated in these ERs, with survival rate of critically ill children improving significantly (from 15 to 97%). Now no child in Karachi is more than 30 minutes away from a world class Emergency Room.
ChildLife now plans to expand its model to the rest of Pakistan.
